Expeditions of Humboldt

Conception of the scenography for the exhibition « Botanik in Bewegung – Humboldts Expeditionen » (from June 2 to September 30, 2018) at the Bern Botanic Garden. The voyages of Alexander von Humboldt are staged with quotes from the explorer, visuals, texts and maps.

The scenographic concept, the materiality and the graphic design are inspired by the nature of the botanic garden itself. Base stations represent stylized trees. The structure of the trees is brass. The raw and golden material blends into the greenery of the garden and transforms with time. Information flags remind of leaves and move in the wind.

On the back side of the flags, a wide variety of patterns show Humboldt’s travel destinations through stylized plants describing the places of his trip.

The font used is called «Humbold». It was designed especially for the exhibition by our colleague and font designer. The font is inspired by the early writings of Humboldt.

In addition to the logo, visuals for posters, leaflets and other productions were designed.

The exhibition will be show on 2019 at the Botanic Garden of Hamburg.

Expéditions de Humboldt

Conception et réalisation de la scénographie de l'exposition „Botanik in Bewegung – Humboldts Expeditionen" (du 2 juin au 30 septembre 2018) au Jardin botanique de Berne. Le voyage de Humboldt est mis en scène avec des citations du scientifique, des visuels, des textes explicatifs et une carte géographique.
Le concept scénographique, la matérialité et le langage graphique s'inspirent de la nature présente au jardin botanique. Les stations de base représentent des arbres stylisés. La structure des arbres est en laiton. Le matériau brut et doré se fond dans la verdure du jardin et se transforme avec le temps. Les drapeaux d'information rappellent des feuilles et bougent avec le vent.
Sur le dos des drapeaux, une grande variété de motifs montre les destinations de voyage de Humboldt à travers des plantes stylisées qui décrivent les lieux de son voyage.
La police utilisée s’appelle "Humboldt". Elle a été spécialement dessinée pour l'exposition par notre collègue et typographe. La police est inspirée par les premiers écrits de Humboldt.

En plus du logo, des visuels pour des affiches, des dépliants et d'autres productions ont été conçus.
L'exposition sera exposée en 2019 au Jardin botanique de Hambourg.

Humboldts Expeditionen

Konzeption und Realisierung der Szenografie zur Ausstellung „Botanik in Bewegung – Humboldts Expeditionen“ (02. Juni bis 30. Sept. 2018) im Botanischen Garten Bern. Die Reise von Humboldt wird mittels Zitaten des Entdeckers, Bildmaterial, Erklärtexten und einer geografischen Karte inszeniert. 

Das szenografische Konzept, die Materialität und Formensprache ist inspiriert von der Natur des Gartens. So zeigen die Basisstationen stilisierte Bäume. Die Baumkonstruktion selbst besteht aus Messing. Das gold-gelbe, natürliche Material fügt sich in den grünen Garten ein und verändert sich im Laufe der Zeit durch die Witterung. Die Informationsfahnen erinnern an Blätter und bewegen sich im Wind. Auf den Rückseiten der Fahnen zeigen unterschiedlichste Muster den Reiseort Humboldts mittels stilisierten Pflanzen.

Nebst den Basisstationen und dem Logo wurden für die Ausstellung raumübergreifende Inszenierungen entwickelt: Dreidimensionales Anden-Alpen-Modell, Herbarium, Cyanometer, Drachenbaum, Orangerie.
Die verwendete Schrift trägt den Namen „Humboldt“. Sie wurde von unserer Mitarbeiterin und Typografin speziell für die Ausstellung gezeichnet und ist inspiriert aus den frühen Schriften Humboldts.
Die Ausstellung ist 2019 im Botanischen Garten in Hamburg zu sehen.
