Magazine UNHCR

Emphase developed the design concept for UNHCR Switzerland's annual magazine and took on the artistic direction. The content focuses on people - in particular the 120 million refugees worldwide.

The design focuses on expressive images and pithy quotes to create emotional connections. In addition, articles about refugees and reports from employees are illustrated with maps and infographics. For example, the first double-page spread visualises a world map showing the global presence of the UNHCR, the largest refugee camps and the countries with the most displaced people.

A special feature is an insert with recipes from crisis areas and a photo competition that actively involves readers. This approach is intended not only to motivate readers to take action, but also to inspire empathy and encourage support for the work of the UNHCR.
