Emphase Sàrl is a graphic design agency based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since 2010, the two founders Fabienne Kilchör and Sébastien Fasel with their team are developing a wide range of visual communication solutions. For small and large enterprises, as well as public institutions, Emphase is designing among other things books, annual reports, posters, visual identities and infographics. The team is accompanying projects from the conception stage to the publication.

Emphases creative style is rooted in traditional Swiss design but oriented towards contemporary graphic design. Clear-cut lines, accuracy and the reduction of complexites are characteristic for the studio. Emphase is realising projects uncomplicatedly, but not simply, as it is cooperating with its customers.

Since the beginnings, Emphase is interested in the field of information design. By means of infographics, diagrams and charts complex interrelations and Big Data are simplified and mediated. Among the clients are newspapers, federal offices as well as business and science stakeholders. Those images of knowledge have the potential to uncover new knowledge and to create strong memories.

As an innovative graphic design agency, Emphase is defining itself as a scientific design laboratory. For over five years, Emphase is not only initiating and executing customer projects but also cantonal and federal research projects in the fields of communication design and data visualisation. In close cooperation with universities, colleges and project partners theoretical and pratical research on current issues of the visual communication of information is undertaken.

Both Fabienne and Sébastien are lecturers at Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) and are regularly organizing workshops at various other Swiss design schools. Since 2015 they are coordinating the Certificate of Advanced Studies programme (CAS) Data Visualization at Bern University of the Arts.

Emphase is based in Lausanne, but active in all of Switzerland and perfectly bilingual.

Emphase est une agence de design graphique basé à Lausanne depuis 2010, fondée par Fabienne Kilchör et Sébastien Fasel. Ses prestations couvrent l’ensemble des besoins du domaine de la communication visuelle.

La variété des projets intéresse le bureau qui y voit à chaque fois l’opportunité d’y appliquer sa vision du design: ancré dans la tradition du Design Suisse mais contemporain dans sa réalisation, rationnel dans l’organisation des informations mais émotionnel dans sa présentation, simplificateur de la complexité mais jamais simpliste.

De nature innovante, Emphase se définit également comme un laboratoire graphique. En plus de travailler pour des mandataires, le bureau est fortement impliqué dans la recherche académique en design en partenariat avec les hautes écoles de design ainsi que les universités. Des projets d’envergures mêlant théories du design et prototypes novateurs. L’expérience acquise lors de ces travaux permet à Emphase de proposer des solutions originales et pertinentes à ses clients.

Depuis ses débuts, Emphase développe un intérêt particulier pour le domaine du design d’information. Que ce soit des infographies dans le but de communiquer des informations de manière visuelle, ou des visualisations de données dans le but d’analyser et mettre à jour de nouvelles connaissances.

Le bureau s’investit également dans la formation des futures designers. Emphase donne des cours réguliers à la Haute Ecole d’Art et Design de Genève, ainsi que divers workshop dans diverses écoles: Supsi à Lugano, HKB à Bern, HGK à Bâles. Depuis 2015, Emphase coordonne un CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) sur la visualisation de données au sein de la Haute Ecole d'Art de Berne.

Basé en Suisse Romande, Emphase est actif des deux côtés de la Sarine car parfaitement bilingue.

Seit 2010 realisieren die beiden Gründer Fabienne Kilchör und Sébastien Fasel mit ihrem Team eine Bandbreite von Aufträgen im Bereich der visuellen Kommunikation. Für Klein- und Grossunternehmen, sowie für den öffentlichen Sektor gestaltet Emphase unter anderem Bücher, Jahresberichte, Plakate, visuelle Erscheinungsbilder und Informationsgrafiken und begleitet den Kunden und sein Projekt von der Konzeptionsphase bis hin zum Druck.

Das Atelier ist gestalterisch in der Tradition des Schweizer Designs verankert, orientiert sich aber an der zeitgenössischen Grafik. Die Reduktion von Komplexität, die gestalterische Schärfe und die klare Linie macht das Büro aus.

Seit ihren Anfängen interessiert sich Emphase für den Bereich Informationsdesign. Anhand von Informationsgrafiken, Schemata und Schaubilder werden komplexe Sachverhalte oder schwer überschaubare Datenmengen vermittelt und Wissen sichtbar gemacht.

Als innovatives Grafikbüro, definiert sich Emphase als Gestaltungslabor. Seit über fünf Jahren initiiert und leitet Emphase nebst den Kundenprojekten, kantonale und nationale Forschungsprojekte im Bereich Kommunikationsdesign und Datenvisualisierung. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit Hochschulen, Universitäten und Projektpartner wird theoretisch wie praktisch an aktuellen Fragen der visuellen Vermittlung von Informationen geforscht.

Als Lehrbeauftragte unterrichten Fabienne Kilchör und Sébastien Fasel an der Hochschule für Kunst und Design in Genf und leitet regelmässig Workshops an diversen Designhochschulen der Schweiz. Seit 2015 leiten sie ausserdem den Weiterbildungslehrgang (CAS) Data Visualization an der Hochschule der Künste Bern.

Das Grafkbüro hat seinen Sitz in Lausanne, ist jedoch in der ganzen Schweiz aktiv da perfekt zweisprachig.
